Facebook removes two union flag protest pages

A flag protest was held in east Belfast during Monday night's snow
A flag protest was held in east Belfast during Monday night's snow
Two Facebook sites related to the loyalist flag protests have been removed.
They were ordered down by a Belfast court on Friday, after they carried death threats against a Catholic man.
His lawyer had been critical of the length of time it took the social media giant to act.
He had threatened to take further legal action if they were not removed by 09:00 GMT on Tuesday.
The sites were Loyalists against Short Strand and Loyalist Peaceful Protests Updater.
The sites had provided information about street protests being held in Northern Ireland.
They have been ongoing since a decision was taken by councillors on 3 December to limit the number of days the union flag flies at Belfast City Hall.
In his ruling at Belfast High Court, the judge ordered that the man's picture and details about him should be prevented from appearing on any other web pages controlled by Facebook.
The flag dispute is now in its seventh week.
Some of the protests have been followed by rioting in which more than 100 police officers have been injured.

Annie Idibia Narrates How 2Face Proposed To Her

Below is what she told Jara TV, a programme on Africa Magic, about that special day last year when her man of over 12 years finally asked her to marry him.
“He called me up one morning that I should meet him in Lagos so that we can hang out. He said his friends are around and they want to take us out. So, I agreed to see him. I remember it was a particular friend of ours that was around that day, although I would not like to mention his name.

“And when I got to Lagos that day, he was like ‘let’s go to the club.’ When we got to the club, the place was totally empty. Obviously confused, I asked him, baby, what are we doing here, it’s empty” and before I turned back, my brothers and friends showed up. I was so perplexed that I had to ask what everybody was doing around there and they said they heard we were there and they came.
“Just about few minutes after, Tuface picked up the microphone and I thought he was going to do all the normal hypes he does when he goes to the club. But he shocked me. He started saying things about how I have always been there for him since day one. How I have sacrificed alot for him. How I have cried and stood strong during his trying moments.
The truth is, he said so many things I can’t remember now. He said so many wonderful things that sent me into another world and I couldn’t even hear the other things he said.
“I didn’t even know when he walked up to me and he said “Please, will you marry me?” And I was like, “Can you imagine? What’s going on here?” he was saying so many things that I can’t even remember. It all blew my head.
“Although, it has not been easy since we had our traditional marriage. The truth is, it is not easy to be married to a superstar but I still live my normal life. Right now, I feel 24 hours is not enough for me because I have my husband, my daughter and myself to take care of. It has really been crazy and God knows I have been trying my best. I wish I have more time to handle all of this.

"No-One Disputes The Quality Of Our First Lady": Barack Obama Pays Tribute To Wife Michelle

Barack Obama paid tribute to wife Michelle - and then danced the night away at the official inauguration ball.

Just hours after being sworn in for his second term as US president, he told a celeb-packed audience: "Some may dispute the quality of our president, no-one disputes the quality of our First Lady".
The couple then took to the floor for their first dance as Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson sang Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together'.
Mr Obama crooned a few bars of the soul classic a year ago at a fundraiser at Harlem's famed Apollo Theatre.
Other stars included Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys, who changed her hit Girl On Fire to sing "He's the president and he's on fire...Obama's on fire. Obama's on fire."
The crowd joined in with We Are Young by the American band Fun.
Mrs Obama wore a custom-made Jason Wu ruby-coloured dress to the inaugural balls.
Earlier at the inauguration Beyonce had performed the national anthem, while James Taylor sang America The Beautiful and Kelly Clarkson followed with My Country 'Tis Of Thee.
Mr Obama was officially sworn in on Sunday as required by law, but the glitter of Inauguration Day was pushed forward a day as January 20 fell on Sunday this year.
It meant the grand ceremony fell on the birthday of revered civil rights leader Martin Luther King.
The president said every citizen deserved a basic measure of security and dignity, and held up healthcare and social security as that strengthen the country.

PHOTOS: 2Face Idibia, Iyanya, Davido, Tiwa Sawage & A Host of Stars At The Biggest New Year’s Eve Party

The much talked about Lagos Crossover Concert has come and gone, leaving behind memories that will linger for a very long time.

Organized by the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), it was the very first of its kind and, with Nigeria’s premium lager beer, Star, stepping in as a major sponsor of the programme, much was expected from the concert which was held on 31st December 2012, the eve of the New Year.
It wasn’t just about ending the outgoing year in grand style, it was also about ushering in the New Year in a unique way.  The event featured more than 15 electrifying musical performances from some of the biggest names in the Nigerian music industry including 2Face Idibia, Iyanya, Olamide, Davido, Banky W, Tiwa Sawage, Omawumi, D’Prince , MI, Brymo, Dare, W4 and a host of others.
Other artistes that performed at the event included the 2012 winners of Star Quest – Crystals, Kel, Solid Star, DRB, Tunde Ednut, Orezi, Omo Akin, Pheel, Reminiscence, Eva, Flow Sick and others.
According to Yusuf Ageni, the Corporate Adviser of Nigerian Breweries Plc, the Lagos Crossover Concert was a unique way of saying goodbye to the old year and ushering in the New Year.
“It’s been quite a year for Nigerians, as well as Star, Nigerian’s premium lager beer. Just as Nigeria is still forging on, in spite of all the challenges she has had to go through, Star is also moving on to greater heights.
That was why we decided to partner with Lagos State to say goodbye to the wonderful moments of 2012 and welcome 2013 with a positive outlook,” Ageni stated.

How I Browse With Glo BIS on iPad

Got hinted at Bloggerslab that Glo BIS (Blackberry Internet Subscription) now works on computer, smartphones and decided to give it a try on my iPad. Guess what? It's working perfectly as at the time of publishing this post.

So, How?

==> Switch off your iPad

==> Remove your GLO SIM from the iPad and insert it into any phone. In fact, I used Nokia torchlight..

==> Subscribe to Glo BIS with your Glo SIM.
Text "coweek" to 777 for N400/week plan and text "comonth" to 777 for N1400/month plan.

==> Remove the Glo SIM from the phone and re-insert into your iPad

==> Power ON your iPad

==> Tap "Settings" icon

==> Tap "Mobile Data/Cellular Data" ==> "APN Settings"

==> Enter "blackberry.net" as the APN, leave the username and password blank (do not type anything there)

==> Tap "Mobile data/ Cellular data" and slide it to OFF

==> After few seconds, slide it back ON

==> Fire on your iPad safari browser and surf anyhow you like.

If you have Mediaburner app for iPad, you can even use it to download Youtube videos to your iPadGoodreader app and VideoDLPro app are also good downloaders for iPad

That's all.

NOTE: "coweek" gives you 700MB while "comonth gives you 3Gigs which means this is far better than the Airtel BIS been used by some guys to browse on computer.

I don't really know how long Glo will allow this to work. So, if it fails to work for you by the time you will be reading this, Glo might have blocked it. I pray they don't since they are not losing. At least, we are subscribing....

Guys said the Glo BIS works on modems too but can't say much about it right now because I tried it and it didn't work for me, probably because Istill have active Glo data plan on the same Glo SIM.

Make sure you subscribe to this blog here so you won't be missing this kind of freebie.

Have fun!.

Police Nab PDP Chieftain, One Other Over Murder Of 2 Kano Legislators

The Kano State Police command, yesterday, paraded a chieftain of  the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Alhaji Sale Kura, 54, and one Ibrahim Lawal as sponsors and killers of two members of the state House of Assembly last year.
The poilce said the victims were killed for a fee of N100,000 of which N30,000 was given them as part payment, leaving a balance of N70,000.
An Assembly member, Ibrahim Abba Garko (PDP) was murdered by unknown gunmen on November 17, while his counterpart, Alhaji Danladi Kademi, was shot dead in front of his guest house on December 14, 2012.
The police said Kura was arrested following a painstaking effort by investigators which led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Ibrahim Lawal, who then named the PDP chieftain as his sponsor.
The Kano State Police Commissioner,  Ibrahim Idris, said killers of the two legislators held several meetings with their sponsor on how to assassinate their victims in his (Alhaji  Kura) car park in his residence.
Briefing newsmen in his office following the breakthrough in police investigations, Idris said: “The command, based on information, arrested one Ibrahim Lawal in connection with the killing of late  Danladi Isa Kademi. Lawal allegedly confessed during interrogation that he physically participated in the killing and he personally shot Kademi dead.”
Idris revealed that Lawal confessed to have joined the gang of hired killers in January 2012, naming their gang leader and armourer as one Abdullahi, alias Mabo of Filin Kashew, Unguwa Uku quarters in Kano metropolis.
Other gang members still at large
The CP, however, said other gang members, including Sagir Yahuza of Farin Massalaci Unguwa Uku, Surajo Adamu of Layin Tazarce Unguwa Uku, Tasiu Shuaibu of Layin Yarabawa Unguwa Uku and Mohammed Abdulsalam of Layin Tazarce Unguwa Uku quarters in Kano metropolis were, however, on the run.
He, however, said “the alleged sponsor of the assassination of the two legislators, Alhaji Kura also lives at Layin Yarabawa Unguwa Uku quarters and runs a boutique at Abubakar Rimi market, Sabon Gari.
Idris further explained that the gang leader and five other accomplices were still at large.
He further revealed that “the suspected sponsor, Alhaji Sale Kura, was together and observed his evening prayers with late Ibrahim Abba Garko,  at the time he was assassinated at Yan’Awaki quarters.

US cool on Google's Eric Schmidt visiting North Korea

The US state department has said a planned visit to North Korea by Google chairman Eric Schmidt is unhelpful.
The reason for the trip has not yet been revealed, but reports say it is part of a humanitarian mission led by US politician Bill Richardson.
State department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said: "We don't think the timing of this is particularly helpful."
Ms Nuland added that Mr Schmidt and Mr Richardson were "well aware" of the US government's views.
Mr Richardson, a former governor of New Mexico, has been involved in ad-hoc negotiations with the North Koreans in the last 20 years and has helped in securing the release of US nationals detained by Pyongyang.
Last month, North Korea arrested a US citizen of Korean origin, Pae Jun Ho, for unspecified alleged crimes.
Google is present in neighbouring China, where it was involved in lengthy negotiations over internet access before it effectively shut down its Chinese search engine in 2010.
Internet use is highly restricted in North Korea, where few people have access to a computer and most users can only access a national intranet rather than the world wide web.
Some analysts speculated that for Google's Eric Schmidt the trip could have strategic reasons.
"I think this is part of Google's broader vision to bring the Internet to the world, and North Korea is the last frontier," said Peter Beck, of South Korean's non-profit Asia Foundation, to Reuters.
Google has refused to comment so far.
Kim Jong-un said 2013 would be a year of creations and changes
Confirmation of Mr Schmidt's trip came days after the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, delivered a new year's message on state TV, the first such broadcast for 19 years.
Kim Jong-un delivers his New Year address in Pyongyang in this picture released by North Korea's official KCNA news agency on 1 January 2013Kim Jong-un, in power since 2011, spoke of the need to improve the economy and also to reunify the Koreas, warning that confrontation only led to war.
Kim Jong-un said 2013 would be a year of creations and changes, calling for a "radical turnabout" that would transform the impoverished, isolated state into an "economic giant" and raise living standards.
But while he said confrontation between the North and the South should be removed, Mr Kim stressed that military power remained a national priority.
Under Mr Kim's leadership, North Korea has conducted two long-range rocket launches - actions condemned by the US and Pyongyang's neighbours as banned tests of missile technology.
The launch in April failed, but December's attempt appears to have been a success, placing a satellite into orbit.
The US, Japan and South Korea are seeking a response in the UN Security Council, which banned North Korea from missile tests after nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009.

Pakistan: Explosion 'hits Karachi crowd'

A big explosion has hit a crowded area in the Pakistani city Karachi, killing one person and injuring several others, local media report.
Geo News television said it was a "major blast" near a market.
Police have arrived at the scene and the injured are being taken to hospital.
Karachi has long suffered outbreaks of violence, caused by Taliban militants or by rival political groups fighting turf wars.
The killing of senior cleric Maulana Mohammad Ismail at a prominent Islamic seminary in December sparked angry protests - amid growing sectarian violence in the port city.
Several Shias have been recently killed in drive-by shootings blamed on Sunni militant groups.
And on 10 November, at least seven students from Maulana Ismail's seminary were gunned down by unidentified gunmen at a tea stall nearby.
